望むままに

わたしは、公正な神の堅い定めを、わたしの願いによって乱してはならないのである。人が死ぬことを望もうと生きることを望もうと、神が彼らの望むままにされることを知っているからである。まことに、人々が救いを望もうと滅びを望もうと、神は彼らの意のままに、不変の定めを彼らに布告されるということをわたしは知っている。

またわたしは、善と悪がすべての人の前にあることも知っている。善悪の分からない人は、罪のない状態にある。しかし、善悪の分かる人には、善を望もうと悪を望もうと、生を望もうと死を望もうと、喜びを望もうと良心のとがめを望もうと、自分の望むままに与えられるのである。

I ought not to harrow up in my desires the firm decree of a just God, for I know that he granteth unto men according to their desire, whether it be unto death or unto life; yea, I know that he allotteth unto men, yea, decreeth unto them decrees which are unalterable, according to their wills, whether they be unto salvation or unto destruction.

Yea, and I know that good and evil have come before all men; he that knoweth not good from evil is blameless; but he that knoweth good and evil, to him it is given according to his desires, whether he desireth good or evil, life or death, joy or remorse of conscience.

人は、人に助言を求めて相談しながら、

与えられた助言に従わないことが多いものです。
結果を見て、学ぶことが好きなのでしょう。

何も学ばないよりはマシですから。
